The Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center was opened on September 28, 1995 and is named in honor of Dr. Joe O. Arrington, Jr., an outstanding physician who practiced cardiology for many years in Lubbock. He is well remembered for the extraordinary care of his patients and their families. Dr. Arrington passed away in 1991 from prostate cancer. Dr. Arrington was known not only for his technically skill as a physician, but for his human touch with patients and families. Those who worked with Dr. Arrington remember him being a warm and caring physician who took time to listen to the patient, their concern and needs. His philosophy of treating patients in his manner marked his lengthy medical career. Those same philosopies became the inspiration for the Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center. The JACC is part of the Covenant Health System and the St. Joseph Health System. Since opening our doors in 1995, the JACC has gone through several changes. As the JACC services grew, so did the need for more space. The JACC grew to over 27,000 square feet by August 1998. This expansion provided more clinical space and added new technology. This addition included The Arrington Comprehensive Breast Center (ACBC). The ACBC is the most complete breast center in the region and offers a variety of services, including an Advanced Breast Biopsy Instrumentation (ABBI) system. The JACC completed Phase III of construction in February 2002. The JACC currently consists of over 60,000 square feet of clinical space and over 22,000 square feet of support service office space in the Medical Office Building. |
