The pharmacy at the JACC provides a wide
range of services for outpatients. The pharmacy staff prepares and dispenses
all treatment-related drugs including chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy
drugs. The pharmacy staff acts as a final check on all doses of drugs that
are dispensed and/or administered to ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.
The
JACC pharmacy is the depot for all research drugs that are currently available
through research protocols from pharmaceutical companies and from co-operative
groups. Our pharmacy is a major component in the research program. Record
keeping and education are key elements. The JACC pharmacy strives to meet the specialized needs of our oncology patients. A pharmacist is available to answer questions concerning chemotherapy or any medications that patients may be currently taking. The JACC pharmacy functions as an “information center” for drug therapy. Many of our patients have stated that they feel more comfortable about taking their therapy when they become familiar with the pharmacy personnel who are responsible for mixing and preparingtheir chemotherapy. The JACC pharmacy is home to two Board Certified Oncology Pharmacists. Roughly 250 pharmacists are Board Certified Oncology Pharmacists in the United States. |
